Dr Navin Erathnage
Dr Navin is a GP Obstetrician of over 17 years in rural and remote locations throughout Australia. He came to Melbourne, Australia in 2004 as a tourist then gained employment as a Resident Medical Officer at Ballarat and from there he completed further Obstetrics and Gynaecology training as he continued to work at various Hospitals in Victoria. In 2010 Dr Navin made the move to Innisfail, Queensland with his wife. Dr Navin’s wife and three young boys remain living in Brisbane while Dr Navin has worked in various rural and remote hospitals across Queensland, NT, WA and NSW. In 2017 while based in Wee Waa NSW Dr Navin realised his passion for helping people in the country and began his dream of opening his own practice in the country. He recognised the shortage of GP’s in Narrabri and this became the location for his practice. Dr Navin has completed his Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) as well as Royal College of General Practitioners (RACGP) trainings and has gained Advanced Diploma of Obstetrics, Advanced Diploma of Dermatology, Diploma in Pediatrics. Prior to opening his own Practice in Narrabri, Dr Navin was employed as a Senior Medical Officer in various Emergency Department’s across Australia and most recently at Bundaberg Base Hospital. He brings his emergency department experience and training to his practice and is able to treat all non-life threatening emergencies and traumas in the practice to save you waiting hours at an Emergency Department. Dr Navin has a passion for helping and improving the quality care of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population since his extensive experience working with the aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory, Kimberley and Northern Queensland. Dr Navin runs the Rural Doctor’s Support Network of Australia which aims to support the welfare of rural GP’s in the hopes of attracting and retaining more rural GP’s to the bush.
